The Rio Grande/Rio Bravo River Basin is rich in biodiversity, wildlife, and cultural history, but it also has been seriously impacted by climate change, population growth, and development.

To address the critical need to reverse the damage (inflicted) on ecological and human health in the basin, the Salazar Center for North American Conservation has launched the Peregrine Accelerator for Conservation Impact.

Accepting proposals through Nov. 21, 2022, the Peregrine Accelerator seeks innovative solutions in at least one of the three focus areas:

  1. Water in the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo Basin — drivers of water scarcity and impacts of scarcity on people and nature, water quality and water management, agricultural water use, managing and responding to growing water demand
  2. Cities, working lands and wilderness in the basin — green infrastructure and urban green space, landscape-scale climate adaptation, connected ecosystem and habitats, sustainable working lands
  3. Human dimensions of basin health — cross-sector collaboration, building collective power, public awareness around conservation and climate issues in the basin, data and mapping, etc.

Up to 12 proposals will be selected to participate in a six-month cohort program that includes a $10,000 stipend to help teams advance their ideas and develop implementation plans. At the end of the program, teams will present their final proposal and be eligible to receive an additional implementation grant of up to $100,000.

The cohort will provide teams with access to the Salazar Center’s network of funders and expert mentors, and a community of innovators who are working toward a more sustainable future.

Strengthening environmental stewardship is a priority for The Moore Charitable Foundation and its Colorado affiliates, The Trinchera Blanca and Tercio Foundations. The Salazar Center is dedicated to inspiring new, cutting-edge approaches to the conservation of land, water and energy resources, and we are proud to support their important work.
